Whether to take an offensive or a defensive approach in martial arts and is life is often a sweet science. But when it comes to a knife, we practice “Run-Jitsu” 🏃♂️
Training knife is often controversial, but we still like to explore various takes. In this video, Tuhon Apolo Ladra shows a great drill for developing sensitivity and talks about in Pekiti-Tirsia Kali it is important to only be on offense… in fact, their position is that defence “is the other guys problem.”
What are you thoughts about this philosophy?

Knife defense=gun
The best way to defend against a quick knife attack is one of those Dune shields. Unfortunately they don’t work against very slow knife attacks.
This is NOT real Life. Looks good but not real life experience.
Sorry. But not realistic! Besides anyone who thinks he has good technique, never escapes this kind of assaults, tries to defend himself against the knife. It’s too dangerous. It causes unecessary self-confidence!
Thank you for your videos. I am a novice and of all of the self defense channels I’ve watched across YouTube, Budo Brothers is – bar none – the best. Is clear that I need to move to the Philippines to be trained hands on by the best. Thank your again for your instructional videos and many blessings. 🙏
If someone is always on the attack , that could get quite tiresome . I am interested to know of The Old man that demonstrated such excellent hand to hand sparring skills . He had glasses and often took part in demonstrations. Once perhaps making Red T-Shirt laugh with knife sparring !
Sowat if da resisting nigga do
This reminds me of a karate movie in the 80s…. then u saw ufc n you know karate is not going to work 😢
in a real knife fight you ll be full of cuts. You ll win only if the cuts are not deadly. The only realistic scenario is use armor , something like a chainmail or to use a gun. Everything else is just random
I like that "…defense is HIS problem…"
Terpaksa guna jurus juga… Letihnya.. datang pelik2 pula .. tapi still standing.. hmmm
Throw rocks at knife man!!

How to defend against katana
This is bullshit
I've heard "the loser of a knife fight dies on the spot, the winner dies 20 minutes later in the hospital"
Yes officer, he tried to stab me thats why he has multiple stab wounds
Give a 10 year old a magic marker and you’ll find out
These idiots always make demo where the attack poses for a picture. Why not show a video of actual stabbing and then recreate it to show proper defense techniques. Yes these idiots make a living out of naives, carry on.
I think this offensive mindset is an effective technique in many scenarios. I wanted to see someone showing this against a knife. To me the strike while defending is the only way if you can’t just run. Otherwise the knife keeps coming. This is similar in principle to Wing Chun.
Wow, in the 2 years since I commented, there's been some really positive debate. High kicks are for sport prowess; but in the real world, range is a luxury you may or may not be able to command. In fact why bother maintain it with daily stretching, when anyone can kick low. A low kick may be effective, but you still need all your skills to block, evade & knock out. Either that, or the kick may have weakened his mobility enough for you to run. But in the street encounters I had, I never ran, because I only trained to fight; running should be an option you mentally notice during sparring. In answer to Dennis, I've seen a few weapons displayed as a threat to scare people away. But I once had to disarm a guy who pulled a blade from his back pocket during a tussle. So basically if anyone has serious intent, they won't show you the knife until they've used it
